FOCUS ON ONESELF & WITH SELF-CONFIDENCE
Today you'll read a very special guest post. One with the absolute goal of giving you the courage to embrace color, to make decisions, and to love yourself more.
For years, sunsetred has been a loyal and invaluable supporter of Schwalbennest, always ready to lend a hand. With her infectious enthusiasm and tireless dedication, she has often shifted perspectives and brought exciting new ideas to the table. Not only that, but sunsetred also runs a remarkably successful blog called "Sewing Instead of Buying," where she expresses her passion for sustainable fashion and creative pattern hacking. She shows us that fashion is more than just clothing—it's an art form, a statement, a love. A love for oneself, too.

The color red – in love with your own fire
For my niece's 18th birthday, I gave her the book "Women Owe You Nothing." I already love the title. But above all, I love the clear message: that we women don't owe the world any makeover. We don't owe anyone a smile. We don't owe anyone to decorate the world with our bodies. We don't owe anyone to wear clothes that others like.
To implement this with complete consistency is self-love!
I smile when I am happy.
My body is there to carry me through MY life.
My clothes must bring ME joy in life.
My clothes must bring ME joy in life.
Even though marketing professionals are currently doing everything they can to convince us otherwise, self-love isn't about buying the latest anti-wrinkle cream ("Hate your age"), the latest shapewear ("Hate your body"), or the latest self-improvement course ("Hate yourself"). Self-love is neither about consumption nor about changing oneself. It is first and foremost about accepting oneself and then appreciating that self.
To bring us full circle to our wonderful hobby of sewing:
Sew only if it truly makes you happy right now. Not because you "have to" produce new pictures for Instagram. Sew patterns you like. Not the ones you think will hide your tummy/butt/you name it.
Closeness in colors that bring you joy. Not those that are supposedly age-appropriate/business-friendly/whatever.
Honestly, how many of these sentences did you just recognize yourself in?
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to let such limiting beliefs hold me back. Those particularly irritating phrases like "Women your age should..." are a real blow to my 43-year-old self-image. But there's one thing I've truly left behind: color codes. Even in my very conventional professional environment, I no longer wear only formal blue, professional black, or understated patterns. I wear all shades of red, and I especially love floral patterns in every imaginable design. I'd love to offer some clever advice on how to get to this point. But until you've actually approached that elusive self-love yourself, it all just sounds like empty platitudes.
What I know: Red is a powerful color and the color of love. It creates visibility and attention. No hiding, but a "Hello, here I am!" That's why it's the perfect color symbol for self-love. So even if you're still struggling with yourself today, jump into the fire and overcome your fears.
Let this week, in the ebook creators' color palette, be your call to grab some red fabric and sew that pattern you've been eyeing for ages. The pattern that challenges you to show yourself as you truly are, who you are, what you love. Take every spark of self-love you can find within and let it ignite into a flame, defying all the limitations of societal expectations and harsh self-criticism.
You are enough!
