Floki Snow-Eye & the Road to an Overdose of Pink
Floki Schneeauge is a truly beautiful and incredibly lucky addition to my family and, above all, a great partner for my 4-year-old Malamute Husky, Malmur Grimmlison.
She is loved.
She is being raised and she is staying.
My little, still wild snow bride.
And a short excursion into the production of tableware had been planned for a long time.
Due to lack of time, the implementation was delayed, and both huskies still had functioning harnesses.
It was good in some ways, but incredibly boring.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I admit, my first attempt went completely overboard with the all-feminine fashion and basically aimed for maximum directness. An overdose of pink, including a few minor flaws.
We all know: the journey is the destination, and so I started with the first attempt.
I sewed the harness freestyle, copying the shape from a worn one and making some adjustments. Because even a dog can suffer pain from a poorly fitting harness.
And this is precisely where my requirement lies: I want to be able to put a harness on my two huskies that is lightweight, sturdy and, above all, comfortable.
First, I researched what materials I needed so I wouldn't start with incomplete knowledge. YouTube was my friend, and I'm happy to link a really good video below to get you started.
The fact that my dogs are not small lapdogs had to be taken into account when purchasing materials, and so the choice of webbing was wider than perhaps for a Yorkie.
You can get the materials in countless online shops and also locally.
I ordered my starter kit easily from the Pfotenprunk online shop and am very happy with the delivery. It's a small online shop that offers a great selection, especially for starting a project.
Since I'm now sewing for the whole pack, I'll also try another shop and want to go for a sturdier fabric, as all pack members except my friend Nina's bulldog are huskies and the harness simply has to hold up.
I measured Floki and then I just got started.
All the individual strips were decorated, connected together, and after about 1.5 hours it looked like a dish.
Not perfect, but acceptable. So I'll practice in the future.
And my sweet girl now has a harness that was sewn just for her.
Now I can dress my dogs in it too - great.
How I love DIY!
Nerdy. Maybe. But let's be honest.
With a little know-how, I can sew a really well-fitting harness that is also individual, can be personalized with a name, has padding for more comfort when worn, and above all...
SHIT! THAT LOOKS AWESOME! I LOVE IT!
And that's exactly why Floki, my little girl, and Malmur, my calming presence, will soon be wearing the most beautiful harnesses far and wide.
YEAH!
